CLUB NEWS

Monday 2 August 2021

Dear Proshop Proshop,

Welcome to the August 21' edition of Mollymook Golf Club e-News as we welcome all the Beachside Golf Members to Hilltop from today!  The renovations at the Beachside Course have officially commenced and we hope all the Beachside members enjoy playing at Hilltop over the next four months.

I hope everyone is staying safe and well during this difficult time.  Once again, the current ever changing Covid restrictions are playing havoc with our "open" events and we have had to make some difficult decisions on the following events...

  • Titleist Fitting Day - 6th August - CANCELLED again and a new date is "to be advised".
  • Mollymook Open - 13th to 15th August - the 2021 event is CANCELLED.  Next event will be in August 2022.
  • Cancer Outpatients Appeal Golf Day (COA Day) - 3rd September - the 2021 event is CANCELLED.  Next event will be on Friday 11th February 2022.

Next month, we will provide updates on open events scheduled in October including our showcase event, the NSW Senior PGA Masters Championship Pro-Am but at this stage, the majority of NSW Pro-Am events have been cancelled so it is doubtful this event will go ahead.

It is disappointing for the club to cancel major events such as the Mollymook Open for two years in a row but unfortunately it is a sign of the times and our main priority is to keep our members and local community as safe as possible.

At this stage, our club competition schedule will continue as normal.

The annual Marine Rescue Day that was postponed in May and rescheduled for the 16th of July, and unfortunately cancelled again, will not be rescheduled again this year and the 2021 event has been cancelled.  The 2022 event is booked in for Friday 6th May 2022.

We will continue to keep our members updated on any major changes that will affect our club operations.  We have recently reintroduced some "Covid Local Rules" on course including...

  • Flagsticks - Please do not touch the flagsticks and leave them in at all times.
  • Bunkers - The bunker rakes have been removed, please take a "one card length" preferred lie in the bunkers and use your feet (and/or club) to smooth over your divot and foot prints when leaving the bunker.
  • Scorecards - You can mark your own scorecard again in competitions, please keep a record of your playing partner's score on your card so you can confirm both scores at the end of your round.

Once again, a reminder the maximum seating limit inside Hilltop is 64 and you cannot drink standing up.  Please keep in mind that our staff do not make these rules however they do have to enforce them as part of their job.

Beachside Course Renovations are GO!

The Beachside Course is now closed until December.

The Construction Team and Irrigation Technicians are mapping out the new layout on the ground while the excavators have started digging this morning!

We now have 700 tonnes of sand onsite (pictured) to start building the new sub surface layer.

New Hilltop Weather Station

We have a new weather station at Hilltop.  The live weather can be found on our website (in the PLAY GOLF section) or by clicking the link below.

August can be very windy so please be note that the club has a "Dangerous Wind Policy" and if the average wind speed reaches 60km/h, the warning siren will be sounded and all players must leave the course immediately.  The same process will happen should wind gusts reach 90km/h.

July Golf Summary...

We had very little rain in July (4.4mm to be exact) with no impact on any events.

There were 6,686 golf rounds played in July with 4,108 rounds at Hilltop and 2,578 at Beachside.  This included 2,650 competition rounds at Hilltop and 295 comp rounds at Beachside.

Obviously the majority of play in July was from local members due to the all the areas in lockdown for the last 5 weeks.  We had 1,058 member social rounds at Hilltop and 1,573 member social rounds at Beachside with many getting their last Beachside "golf fix" in until December.

36 players scored 40 points or better at Hilltop during July (or just over 1.3%) and 10 of these scores happened on Saturday 31st July.    The standout performance of the month would have to be Eric Moore at 92 years of age shooting 88 off the stick last Saturday to win the comp with 43 points.  Not too many players around can better there age or let alone by 4 shots!

Some other highlights for the month include Don Crotty, also with 43 points while Aidan Seaton, Kane Morgan and Judy Levett all scored 42 points.  Dawn Makeham, Bill Pittaway, Duncan Taylor, Geoff Smith, Doug Frost, Simon Chappell and Frank Fusca all had 41 points.  Well done to all these players playing some great golf.

There were no Honour Board events held in July.

Hilltop Snack Bar now OPEN Monday to Friday from 10.00am - 3.00pm

We are currently conducting a review of the food operation at Hilltop and with the additional Beachside Members playing at Hilltop, we are opening the Snack Bar (kitchen) 5 days a week from today.  These new longer hours are a trial for the month of August and we will make an assessment of the extended hours at the end of the month based on the patronage (member usage).

Did you know, if you would like to grab a burger or a toasted sandwich at the 9th hole during your round, YOU CAN PRE-ORDER WHILE PLAYING, please call the golf shop on 4455 2055 to order your meal when playing the 8th hole.  Only available between 10.00am - 3.00pm, Monday to Friday.  If the phone is busy at Hilltop, it automatically diverts to Beachside so if you are unsure who answered the phone, please double check that you are talking to Hilltop if you are phoning ahead to order food.  The chances of ordering a burger from Beachside and getting it delivered to you at Hilltop are fairly slim!

Please also note the Hilltop Bar will be opening earlier from 9.30am Monday to Friday to cater for the early 9 hole players wanting coffees (or something stronger).

Members Playing at Hilltop

Please remember that bookings are compulsory for competition and social golf at Hilltop.  The Tee Time sheets for golf open online 21 days in advance at 3.00pm for Beachside members and at 5.00pm for Hilltop members.  Beachside members can only book into the early allocated times for Beachside members or after 1.00pm Monday to Friday.

There is no longer a timer countdown at 5.00pm for Hilltop members.  The tee sheets will continue to open at exactly 5.00pm for Hilltop members but without the countdown timer.

Thank you to all our members who remember to bring their own face masks, a reminder that wearing masks and doing the covid check in process is compulsory.  Good golfing in August and once again given the current circumstances, "STAY SAFE"!
