Dear Proshop Proshop,

Welcome to the 2021 February edition of Mollymook Golf Club e-News.

The Tuesday Women's and Wednesday Veterans' competitions have returned and the golf season is now back in full swing.

The men's Pennant season commences this Sunday at Bermagui and we wish all the players the best of luck as Division 1 and Seniors play against Narooma and Division 2 take on Bermagui on their home track.  We will be having a Pennant meeting at 4.00pm this Friday afternoon at Hilltop for all the men's teams and players who wish to play during the season.  The season draw is available below.

The women's Pennant season starts in early April with some teams starting their practice sessions very soon.

Farewell Nick!

We wish Nick Heath all the best in his new adventures.  This Friday, the 12th February, will be Nick's last day working at Hilltop but you will see him playing golf now and then.

Nick successfully finished his PGA Traineeship at the end of 2020 and is now a full member of the Australian PGA.  Nick easily passed his playing requirements and finished with Distinctions in Coaching, Game Development, Small Business and Management.

After working at Hilltop for almost 7 years on and off, Nick is going to take a break and go travelling for a while to enjoy life after a hectic last 3 years of assignments and exams.

Nick will be sadly missed behind the counter by many members and fellow staff but we look forward to seeing him around practising and playing in the near future.

January Golf Recap...

January set a new record for golf rounds with 9,375 rounds played between Beachside and Hilltop.  There were 2,806 competition rounds at Hilltop which produced some outstanding results.   40 points or better was scored 45 times last month and congratulations to Andrew Taylor who "top scored" for the month with an amazing 50 points in an open single stableford event.  Believe it or not but Andrew had two wipes on the back 9 for 50!

Another outstanding achievement was the 48 points from Chad Lavington (with one wipe) while Peter McGuire, Michael Pike and Peter Bashford all shot 45 points each.  Rob Griffiths and John Johnston  were also impressive with 44 points.

There was a very special highlight from a visiting female professional golfer, Danielle Vasquez, who scored 40 points playing off a handicap of 1 from the White Tees.  3 under par is a great achievement.  Three other ladies shot 40 points last month including Veronica Johnston, Sue O'Brien and Noeleen McCalister.

Congratulations to all these great scores in January.

Junior Clinics

Luke Grinham will be taking over the Junior Clinics from Nick.  This 1st Term will be a 5 week session on Tuesdays and Thursdays (kids will do either Tuesday or Thursday weekly, not both).

The clinics will commence next Tuesday 16th and Thursday 18th February.  Please contact Luke directly on 0458 626 621 or at luke@jnjg.com.au for more information.

Course Maintenance

We have just completed a new cart path which wraps around the back of the 14th green to link up with the 15th fairway.  This new path is 294 metres in length and will make a huge difference once the right side of the 14th green (old path) is renovated, reshaped and turfed.

A reminder the course will be closed for green renovations on the 1st and 2nd of March.  During this time we will take the opportunity to do more new cart path work from the 17th to the 18th holes.

Member Survey

In line with the Board's commitment at last year's AGM, to review all competition structures and formats, we will be sending out a survey to our golfing members later this month.  This survey will include questions about competition formats and tee times, etc, etc.  Once we collate and study the responses, we will then review our current structure and make any adjustments to suit the majority of the membership.  The collated responses will be sent to all members.  Please take the time to complete the online survey that will be emailed to you.

Hole Indexes and Hole Pars

The Hole Indexes and Pars on each hole have been reviewed using the data from our MiClub system which ranks each hole in difficulty from competitions over the last 6 years.  We now have a lot more data from men playing from forward (Yellow, Red and Purple) tees and women playing from back tees (Blue and White).  From this data, we can accurately re-index the holes accordingly.  This process should be done every 5 years or so.

All the indexes will change for men and women while some pars will also change for the women (eg: 1st becomes a Par 4 and the 14th becomes a Par 5 from for the women's Blue and White courses).  These changes will happen on the 1st March so please double check your card to see where you get shots next month.

In closing, our thoughts and prayers are with the Bury family after the tragic accident late last month.  If any members are struggling to come to terms with the accident, the club has arranged a local counsellor who is available for assistance.  Please contact me directly at Hilltop for more information.

Regards,
