CLUB NEWS

Thursday 11 November 2021

Dear Proshop Proshop,

Welcome to the November 21' edition of the Mollymook Golf Club e-News.

It has been pretty much "members only" for the last few months with lockdowns and travel restrictions but things are about to change!  We are preparing for a huge influx of visitors from Sydney and other areas as travel restrictions have now eased from today.  We anticipate that every weekend moving forwards will be very similar to the Xmas/January holiday period.

October saw some sort of normality return by playing 18 holes in groups of four players (for fully vaccinated) while weekly golf presentations also resumed.  We now look forward to the 1st of December when the clubhouses will change from 1 per 4 square metres to 1 per 2 square metres which will effectively double the capacity limits.  Face Masks will also not be required from the 1st December (except for staff inside) so unfortunately everyone has to continue wearing them for another month.

Also, a reminder that you MUST continue to check in with the QR code EVERY TIME you enter the golf shop or clubhouse.

From the President...

As we approach the end of 2021, I would like to thank all golfing members for their patience, support and advice they have given the Club during the last 12 months.  Covid-19 has certainly been challenging for all but as we come out of this pandemic the future looks bright for both golf and the licensed club business.

To be debt free, securing a record $2.8 million operating profit for the last financial year and being in a strong financial position sets the club up for a many of years to come.

Obviously results like this can only be achieved by a dedicated Board and Management.

On a personal note, after 10 years on the Board I will not be seeking re-election but would like to thank all members for their support.  I would also like to thank all those Board members I have had the pleasure to serve with over the last 10 years making hard decisions to ensure the club advances to the betterment of all members and the community.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank John, Nerine, Barry and Jason for their ongoing support and guidance.  The club is lucky to have such a strong and dedicated Management team.

Happy golfing and let's respect each other on and off the course as we look forward to a more normal 2022.

Dave Hassall
President

Beachside Course Update

The Beachside Course is coming along nicely now as the final 3 tees are being turfed over the next couple of weeks and the practice putting green is going through the final shaping process before seeding.  This is the new 7th green with zoysia grass surrounds (pictured right).

Cart paths are now being poured and the last section of the new irrigation system around the practice green is being installed.

It's a huge achievement for the club to be able to invest one million into the Beachside course which will be great to play for golfers of all ages and skill levels.

After some wet weather issues during construction, the soft opening date for members only will now be Monday 13th December.  Beachside members are welcome to continue playing at Hilltop until then.

Golf Membership is now capped

Following on from last month, golf membership is now closed with an entrance fee and waitlist system in place.

Once again, this only impacts new members wanting to join from today and does not (and will not) have any impact on current golf members.

October Golf Summary...

Another very busy month of golf with 6,580 rounds at Hilltop last month including some of our prestige annual tournaments.  We hosted both the Men's and Women's Club and Junior Championships which were won by two of the best golfers in NSW.  Jye Halls and Kelsey Bennett blitzed the fields and recorded new 72 hole record totals in the process with 7 under and 6 under respectively.  For more details, see below...

Once again, the majority of play has been from members with very few visitors allowed here and only Shoalhaven residents.  There were 3,610 member competition rounds and 2,704 member social rounds at Hilltop which means 96% of the total golf rounds were from members during October.

There was some amazing golf played last month with a 58 nett in a stroke event by Therese Lahiff, a 51 points in a single stableford by Aiden Seaton, a 47 points by Matthew Harvey and a 63 nett in 1st round of the championships by Walter Cupitt.  Other impressive results include 45 points by Carolyn Mulvey and Sharney Ferguson.  Matthew Harvey also shot 44 points (in addition to his 47) while Elaine Leach and Phil Binns (not a misprint) shot 43 points with the best C Grade ball striker in Australia, Craig Carriage doing it twice!

There were 43 rounds of 40 points or better last month.

The highlight for October was Brian Russell with a HOLE IN ONE on the 17th hole on Saturday 23rd of October.  Apparently the "perfect 6 iron" off the back tee.

Congratulations to the Division 2 Champion - Leanne Ewin who won by just one shot from Liz McGuire.  In Division 3, Liz Light won by 18 shots from Jane Rutkin.

Congratulations to Jye Halls who also won his 3rd Club Championship shooting a record 7 under par (281).  Jye just got home by 43 shots from Leith Thomas with Craig Lee one shot further back in 3rd.

B & C Grades were very close all the way through with Zoran Ninovic winning the B Grade Championship by just two shots from Ben Elson.  Chester Kent came home strong in the last round to win by 6 shots from David Banks.

Match Play Championship

The top 8 gross scores from the men's club championships have qualified for the club match play championship.  These rounds need to be completed asap and can be played on any day from the Blue tees.

Captain's Trophy Match Play

The top 8 nett scores from the men's club championship have qualified for the Captain's Trophy match play event.  This is a handicap match play event and can be played on any day from the Blue tees.

MEN'S FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIPS - Saturday 20th November

Please note we have a FULL FIELD on Saturday 27th November.  If you are booked in the groups of 6 before 8.00am, then you are playing 36 holes in the Foursomes Championships.  If you are booked in the groups of 4 after 8.00am, you are playing in the 18 hole Medley Stableford event.  It is not optional to play in either event on the day, before 8.00am is 36 holes and after 8.00am is 18 holes.

Kelsey selected to represent Australia

Kelsey has been selected by Golf Australia to compete in the Women's Amateur Asia Pacific Championship at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in the UAE on the 10th - 13th of November.  Kelsey will then head to the United States as a VIP guest to watch the LPGA's CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida.

While in Naples, Kelsey will also be playing golf with World Golf Hall of Famer, Karrie Webb, at one of Troon's most exclusive private clubs.

The Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship has been developed by The R&A and Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation to unearth emerging talent and provide a pathway for elite female amateurs to the international stage.  The winner earns invitations to play in two major championships - the AIG Women's Open and The Evian Championship, as well as an exemption for the Augusta National Women's Amateur.

You will see Kelsey fine tuning her golf at Hilltop this week before she flies out on Saturday and on behalf of all the members, we wish her all the best for her trip.

Men's Presentation Day - Saturday 18th December

With the anticipation of returning to 128 person capacity in the Hilltop clubhouse in December.  The men's annual presentation day has been rescheduled for Saturday 18th December with an 8.30am Shotgun Start.  It will be a 4 person ambrose event.  There will be a $30.00 entry fee to play which includes a burger and drink after golf followed by the presentation of the major event winners.  If you do not intend to stay after golf, it will still be $30 to play!

Good golfing in November!
