CLUB NEWS

Thursday 5 May 2022

Dear Proshop Proshop,

Welcome to the May 22' edition of Mollymook Golf Club e-News.

We are still hoping to have some sort of normal month but unfortunately the weather god is making things very difficult.  We recorded 180mm of rain last month which seemed like a lot more because of the 729mm in March.  The course was closed for 6 days in April with another 8 days of "no carts" which resulted in losing over 2,600 golf bookings due to the wet weather.  This equates to around $67,000 in lost revenue from those bookings.

Unfortunately, every 5mm of rain at the moment looks like we've had 30mm as the ground is continually muddy and just won't dry out.  We did get a break with the weather hosting the Women's Open earlier this week with 3 fine days in a row for our members and visitors to enjoy, see below for more information about the event.

Fingers crossed for good golfing weather in May!

Beachside "Official Opening"

2022 is a great year for the much loved and iconic Beachside Golf Course.  The old layout has been redeveloped into a challenging and visually appealing short course that will provide a wonderful golfing experience for members and visitors for many years to come.

2022 also marks 70 years of Golf at Mollymook (Beachside)!

To help us celebrate, we would like to invite you to the "Official Opening" of the newly redesigned course at 10.00am, Thursday 19th May around the 9th Green at Beachside.

April Golf Summary...

We  finished with 6,421 rounds played in total which wasn't bad considering we were only open for 24 days and just 16 days with carts allowed on.  This included 3,698 rounds at Hilltop and 2,723 rounds at Beachside.  At Hilltop, 74% of the play was from members with 26% from visitors.  At Beachside, 56% of the play was from members and 44% from visitors.

There was 1,862 competition rounds played at Hilltop with JUST 6 players scoring 40 points (or 68 nett) or better which shows the course is playing much tougher in the wet conditions.  There were a few that managed the damp conditions with Andrew Rudd and Chester Kent both scoring 45 points while Trevor Newman and Marty Lochrin shot 43 points.

April saw the...

  • Vets Interclub match with Kiama - POSTPONED to later in the year (TBC)
  • Callaway Fitting Day - POSTPONED to the 18th May (5 spots still available)
  • Vets Club Championships - POSTPONED to the 8th and 15th June

We did have some success though with holding the Vet's Legacy Golf Days at Hilltop and Beachside.  These events raised over $2,200 for the Legacy South Coast Foundation.  Well done to Peter Davis for driving the Legacy Days every year.

We also managed to host 2  rounds of Women's Pennants last month after several wash outs.  The Division 1 team is travelling well at the moment in 2nd place on the ladder midway through the season while in the "Open" Division, "Team 1" is running 3rd and "Team 2" is running 4th on the table.  We wish all 3 teams the best of the luck for the remainder of the rounds this month.

Mollymook Women's Open

We had a great field of 146 players from 32 different clubs playing in the Women's Open earlier this week.

Congratulations to Jasmine Driscoll (pictured left) from New South Wales Golf Club who received her trophy from defending champion, Kelsey Bennett.  Jasmine won the tournament by just two shots from Bega's Elyse Cuzner.

The other divisions were also very closely contested with one of our members, Liz Light winning Division 2 while Penny Paterson was too good in Division 3.

Locals, Christine Hadland and Veronica Johnston took out the Foursomes Championship by just one shot.

Good Luck Kelsey

Kelsey Bennett is off to Singapore shortly to represent Australia at the 2022 Queen Sirikit Cup at Laguna National Golf Resort.

Kelsey will then head to the United States to play in some of the world's most prestigious amateur events including the US Women's Amateur at Chambers Bay and the Canadian Women's Amateur in Ontario.

Good golfing to everyone this month!
