Welcome to the September 22' edition of Mollymook Golf Club e-News.

We finally got to host our Men's Open Championship for the first time since 2019.  It was far from a perfect lead up to the event with over 400mm of rain in the month prior but it was great to see 157 players from 65 different clubs play in tough conditions at Hilltop for the Mollymook Open Championship (see below for more).

August was "almost normal" with just 4 days of "no carts" instead of 4 days with carts in July.  Both golf rounds and revenue exceeded budget which hasn't happened much over the last 6 months with all the rain.  We had 6,342 rounds of golf played with 3,778 rounds at Hilltop and 2,564 rounds at Beachside.  At Hilltop, 87% of the rounds were from members with 13% from visitors.  At Beachside, 73% of play was from members with 27% from visitors.

August Golf Competition Summary...

There were 2,442 competition rounds played at Hilltop with 19 players scoring 40 points (or 68 nett or +4) or better which continues to show the course is playing difficult even with preferred lies.  

Some outstanding scores for the month include, Sue Adams and Gary McLennan with +7 in Individual Par events, Ken Smith shot +6 while Rick Townsend, Wayne Finlayson, Andrew McEnnally and Chris Goodley shot +5.  Mike Crowell shot a great 66 nett and Martin Daly shot 67 nett while Andrew Brady and Rob Sommerville shot 68s.  Narelle Martin shot 43 points in very wet conditions last week while Keith Eikenhout also shot 43 in a stableford event.  Ben Charlton scored 42 points. 

Some major events held last month include the Veterans Age Championships.  Congratulations to the following winners...

  • 55 to 64 - Mark Edmunds 144
  • 65 to 74 - Russell Goff 142
  • 75 and over - Victor Bayliss 143
In the club 4BBB v PAR Championship, Kurt Lampe & Leith Thomas currently hold a 7 shot lead after the first round with the second round being played on Saturday 10th September.  A reminder the 1st round tee sheet was duplicated for the second round so please cancel your booking online asap if you are not playing the final round.

The annual Women's Charity Golf Day was a huge success on Tuesday 16th August with 108 players and congratulations to the team of Kerry Mayer, Sky O'Sullivan, Sue Adams and Sam Whittle who won the Ambrose with 58 nett.  The event raised almost $10,000 which was presented to three local charities on Tuesday...

2022 Mollymook Open Championship

Congratulations to Ali Rachid (pictured) from New South Wales Golf Club on winning the 2022 Mollymook Open Championship.  As you can see, Ali loves being photographed while making a speech!

Ali playing off a +2 handicap had some stiff opposition with 22 players on handicaps between +3 and 2 including past Champions Jye Halls and Zach Mullins.  Ali and Jye were equal leaders after round one with even par 72s.  Round 2 was played in tough, windy conditions which saw Ali hang on with a great one over par 73 to win on a total of 145 from Luke Arthur from Lakeside with 148.

An interesting fact from the Mollymook Open...  there were 6 eagles during the 36 hole event on the 2nd, 6th, 13th, 15th, 18th including a "hole-in-one" on the 12th from James Toomey.

"The Scramble" - Saturday 24th September - 8.30am Shotgun

Formally known as the Holden Scramble, this event returns to Mollymook for the first time in a decade.  It is a Medley 4 Person Ambrose event with it's own Handicap requirements.  

It is $40 per player to play which includes 6 Callaway Balls each, a burger and some great prizes on offer.  The winning team(s) then qualify for the Regional Final later this year.

The PGA Legends are back!

The NSW Senior Masters Championship returns to Hilltop on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th of October.

Friday will be in the "Pro-Am" format where members can play with the Legends Tour Professionals (2 pros and 2 members per group) while Saturday will be the "Pros Only" as they battle it out in the final round for the Championship.  

Members are invited to play or come and watch the action.

You must complete an Entry Form if you wish to play in the Pro-Am.  It is $100 to play which includes your golf with two PGA Legends Tour Professionals, lunch, drink vouchers and a BBQ Dinner with the Pros after their $1,000 N.T.P. Shootout on the 9th Hole at 6.00pm, Friday the 14th October.  There will be great prizes on offer from Callaway Golf for both the individual and team event.  Please click the link below, complete the entry form, and email it to hilltop@mollymookgolf.com.au

  • Hilltop Course Green Renovations - Monday 12th & Tuesday 13th September
The courses will be closed on these dates for renovations and tree maintenance.

Kelsey is back home

Kelsey Bennett returned home earlier this week after playing the World Amateur Team Championship in Paris, France last week.  Kelsey partnered with Kirsten Rudgeley and Maddison Hinson-Tolchard to represent Australia in the "Espirito Santo Team Trophy" where Australia finished 14th out of 56 countries with a team total of 3 over par for the four rounds.

Jye wins South Coast Junior Masters

Jye Halls added another junior title to his impressive collection over the weekend by winning the South Coast Junior Masters at Catalina.  Jye finished on a one under par total 143 (70,73) which was enough to win by 4 shots from Catalina local Oscar Woolridge.

Congratulations Jye!  

We are fast approaching the peak golf season where it gets very busy with major and special events throughout the next few months.  Please remember to book in advance for golf and also please cancel any bookings where you are not intending to play. 

Good (and hopefully dry) golfing to everyone in September.
