CLUB NEWS

Monday 5 December 2022

Dear Proshop Proshop,

Welcome to the December 22' edition of Mollymook Golf Club e-News.

Finally a dry month!  November was the best month by far this year for golfing and the course has finally dried out for the first time since February.

We are looking forward to hosting the "South Coast Open" next week with 120 PGA Professionals and elite amateurs competing to win a spot in the NSW Open next year.  The professionals will be playing for $50,000 in prizemoney next Tuesday and Wednesday at Hilltop with the Pro-Am event being hosted next Monday.  There are still spots available to play in the Pro-Am on Monday, please book through your MiClub login.

On Friday, we celebrate all the hard work the volunteers have done for us this year on with a 9 hole shotgun start.  If you have helped as a volunteer this year, please meet at Hilltop at 3.00pm on Friday for an "ePar" briefing followed by golf.  Please book online through your MiClub login.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Club Management and Staff, we would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Please enjoy the festive season and have a happy and safe holiday period!

Hilltop Voted #2 in Australia...

WOW, an amazing result from the public who voted our Hilltop Course as the #2 Course in Australia in the annual "Australia's 50 Favourite Courses" rankings by Golf Australia Magazine (presented by Callaway).

Thank you to all the members that voted as this was by far, the most votes we have ever received.

We are usually around 3,000 votes behind Bonville, voted the number course again this year, however we are now less than 600 votes behind them.

November Golf Summary...

We had 7,596 rounds of golf played in November which was 596 (8.5%) up on budget and 1,448 more than October.    There were 4,590 rounds played at Hilltop and 3,006 rounds played at Beachside.  At Hilltop, 76% of the rounds were from members with 24% from visitors.  At Beachside, 61% of rounds were from members with 39% from visitors.

There were 2,421 competition rounds played at Hilltop with 52 players scoring 40 points (or 68 nett or +4) or better last month which is a huge increase from just 21 players in October.

Some outstanding scores for the month include Frank Peacock who "top scored" with 45 points (and had an eagle on the 13th hole) while Ross Norman and Sue Miller had great rounds of 44 points.  Rick Townsend and Lesley Betsis scored 43 points while Geoff Farrow shot +7 in a Par event.  Other honourable mentions include Fred Schulz, Frank Schnoor, Jon Tucker, Phil Barry, Peter Cooke, David Johnston, Simon Dunlop, Geoff Thornhill and Kim Wight who all scored 42 points.

Well done to all the Men Of League supporters who played in their Charity Golf Day on Friday 25th November.  There were 104 players and over $10,000 was raised for the charity.

Women's Club Championships

Congratulations to Veronica Johnston (pictured) who won her third Mollymook Club Championship last month by a mere 13 shots from Roslyn Hughes.

In B Grade, it was a bit closer with Sue Adams winning by 8 shots from Belinda Metham.

In C Grade, Kathleen Bull was too good for the field winning by 8 points from Penny Paterson.

Congratulations to all the competitors that played as it was certainly the longest club championships played at Mollymook due to weather delays and the rescheduling of the 3rd & 4th rounds.

Men's Foursomes Championships

Congratulations to the Halls twins, Jye & Blake on winning their second Men's Foursomes Championship together.  It was Jye's fifth Foursomes Championship (won with 3 different partners) and Blake's second.

Jye and Blake shot rounds of 76 and 78 (154) to win by 6 shots.  It was always going to be a close race for second and there were four pairs separated by just one shot with Wayne Finlayson & Mark Pullinger shooting 77 and 83 (160) to hang on to second by one shot from Chris Halls & Brad Parker, Stuart Reeves & Craig Lee and Tony Walker & Aaron Sharp who all finished on 161.

Ben Hasler & Riley Bowman shot rounds of 69.5 & 74.5 (144) to win the overall nett by just one shot from Chris Halls & Brad Parker with 74 & 71 (145) who edged out Victor Nash & Rick Moriarty on a count back.

Patron's Day and Kelsey's European Tour Fundraiser

Thank you to all the supporters of Patron's Day which was held in conjunction with the fundraising event for Kelsey Bennett.  It was a great day with 119 players and lots more supporters turning up for the auctions after golf.

The event raised $17,151.30 for Kelsey who is now in Spain getting ready to play the first stage of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School.  Thank you to the members who also donated items for the auction.

A big thank you to everyone who supported the event and especially to our Club Patrons, John Coburn and John Bendeich for their support.  The first photo below is our patrons John and John along with Club President, David Hume and Club Captain, Sean Carson.

There were some rather large hams won by the men's and women's winners which a Patrons Day prize  tradition.

Xmas Groups and Holiday Period

There are lots of large golf groups booked in this month to celebrate the festive season.  This regular Monday morning group of members had a great day at Hilltop today.  This is the Wayne Kerrs group (they call themselves something similar).

We would like to remind all members that this holiday period could potentially be our busiest ever after all the issues over the last few years (bush fires and covid travel restrictions).

Please remember that the golf courses will be operating at 100% capacity this holiday season so bookings are essential.  The demand for tee times will far outweigh the tee time availability so we are hoping for zero "no shows".

The staff will be doing their best to serve everyone so please be patient during this busy holiday period.

Let's hope the fine weather continues.  Good golfing!
