CLUB NEWS

Wednesday 2 August 2023

Dear Proshop Proshop,

Welcome to the August 23' edition of Mollymook Golf Club e-News.

The fine golfing weather continues after just 2.2mm of rain last month which helped set a new golf rounds record for the month of July.  We had 7,488 rounds of golf played last month which is the highest July total in the history of the club.

It is a bit different from this time last year where we had 401.4mm of rain in July 2022 which resulted in being closed for 7 days and carts were "on course" for just 4 days in total for the month.

We are proud to have been nominated for "Australia's Best Golf Course" at the World Golf Awards later this year.  Please see below for more information (and to vote for us).

July Golf Summary...

We had 7,488 rounds of golf played in July which was 1,988 (36%) up on budget and 3,630 (94%) up on July 2022.

There were 4,404 rounds played at Hilltop and 3,084 rounds played at Beachside.  At Hilltop, 83% of the rounds were from members with 17% from visitors.  At Beachside, 61% of rounds were from members with 39% from visitors.

There were 2,651 competition rounds played at Hilltop with 55 players scoring 40 points (68 nett or +4) or better last month which is 2% of the total comp rounds.

Some outstanding scores last month and in particular, from a few of our younger members which was great to see... 12 year old, Oliver Carson and young Lochi Wall both shot 47 points.  David Banks had another "day out" shooting an impressive 46 points. Ryan Roklitzer and Lewis Tait both shot 44 points.  Matthew Shrubb, Terry Leatham and Malcolm Crockett all shot 43 points while David Banks (again), Geoff Farrow, Chuck L'Heureux, Michelle Green, Kim Wight and Bronwen Walton all shot 42 points.  Other notable scores include Debby Jackson with an amazing 64 nett and Pam Date shot 67 nett in the women's stroke event while Ruth Robson shot +5 in a Par event.

There were a lot of eagles in July so we are checking the size of the cups to make sure they weren't any larger last month...

Eagle Brigade... 1st Hole - David Glenn, 10th Hole - Chris McLean and Ben Hasler, 13th Hole - Terry Robinson, Aaron Basile and Wayne Finlayson, 14th Hole - Sean Carson, 16th Hole - Jye Halls.

Final special mention to Jye Halls, who shot a 4 under par 68 which included a double bogey 5 on the 9th and a 6 on the 13th.  There were obviously lots of birdies (and an eagle) that day.

Wednesday 23rd August from 9.30am - 11.30am

If you would like to attend one of these sessions, you must confirm via email to management@mollymookgolf.com.au

For more information about the proposed masterplan, please click on the link below where you can access proposed plans and reports from various course architects (dating back to 2006), Hole by Hole presentations,  9th Hole Safety Review and the overall map of the latest masterplan.

World Golf Awards

Our Hilltop Course has been nominated for Australia's Best Golf Course at the 10th World Golf Awards to be held in Abu Dhabi, in October this year.  We are also the only course in NSW to be nominated which is a great achievement for the club.

We will need a lot of votes to get anywhere near out voting the likes of Royal Melbourne, Royal Adelaide or The National.

You could say we are the underdog in this vote but just getting nominated is a win for us.

Please click on the link below and then on the Mollymook Golf Club button to vote for Mollymook!

New Golf Cart Numbers

Following on from last month, the golf shop staff have been issuing members with private golf carts new stickers for their carts.

If you have not received your new sticker, please ask the golf staff at Hilltop on your next visit.

The resetting of numbers was done to bring the numbers in line with the actual amount of cart registrations.  Hence everyone's new number is lower than their last number.

Golf Management Australia

Our Golf Manager, Barry West,  has been busy recently with Golf Management Australia (GMA) presenting the "Golf Operations" component of the General Manager/CEO module at Elanora Country Club in Sydney.

The course is run through the Business Management Institute (BMI) and is Australia's number one professional development course for golf and club management. The program is delivered in over 30 countries and is recognised world wide.

Barry presented "Golf Operations" to 23 current or potential General Managers/CEOs from around Australia.  Mario was also a student in this course and has now completed 3 of the 4 BMI modules.

Barry was also a guest speaker at the NSW GMA Conference last week in Sydney.

Monthly Dinner @ Hilltop

We are opening the Hilltop Clubhouse for dinner on the last Friday of every month.  We had a "trial run" last Friday night and the feedback was very positive.  A "trial run" means yes, it was not advertised anywhere.

The next Hilltop Dinner evening will be Friday 25th August with a Mexican Theme evening.  Bookings will be available from tomorrow (Thursday 3rd August) at the Hilltop Golf Shop.  Please contact the golf shop on 4455 2055 to make a booking.  DO NOT CONTACT BEACHSIDE!

A reminder that all bookings are for tables of 8 people and the bookings are staggered in 30 minute increments from 5.30pm to 7.30pm with a 2 hour booking session.  There is limited seating so it will fill up quicker than a Saturday tee sheet!

Looking forward to another great month of golf in August and good luck to everyone playing in the Mollymook Open.
