CLUB NEWS

Wednesday 3 January 2024

Dear Proshop Proshop,

Happy New Year and welcome to the January 24' edition of Mollymook Golf Club e-News.

2024 is off to a flying start with full tee sheets every day at both Hilltop and Beachside.  The rain has been threatening but we are getting away with just the odd light shower at the moment.  We had 224.4mm of rain last month which topped all the dams up (again) so a little dry spell would now be appreciated.

Congratulations to all the major event winners in 2023 and we wish everyone good golfing in 2024.  The annual break up and presentation events were well supported last month with full fields and the Hilltop clubhouse was literally overflowing with members.

December Golf Summary

We had 9,020 rounds of golf played in December which was 20 rounds (0.2%) ahead of budget and 309 rounds (3.3%) down on December 2022.  We did have some serious rain issues which closed both courses on Wednesday 20th December followed by several days of "no carts" that impacted the rounds total.

There were 5,182 rounds played at Hilltop and 3,838 rounds played at Beachside.  At Hilltop, 68% of the rounds were from members with 32% from visitors.  At Beachside, 41% of rounds were from members with 59% from visitors.

There were 2,386 competition rounds played at Hilltop with an impressive 56 players scoring 40 points (68 nett or +4) or better last month.

Some fantastic scores last month included Peter Pepperell who shot 44 points TWICE!  Congratulations to Mark Stewart and Robert Willmette who also shot 44 points.  Ian Wight and Ben Elson shot 43 points while Brody Lavington, Blake Hollick and Sam England all shot 42 points

Eagle Brigade...   18th Hole - Frank Lampe and Craig Carriage.

Hole In One...  Congratulations to Justine Makeham (pictured) on scoring her first ever Hole-In-One on the 9th Hole last Thursday (28th December).  The ball rolling into the hole was witnessed by several members who were doing their pre-golf "warm up routines" at the tables along the windows.

District Pennants in 2024

Our Club Captain, Sean Carson will be hosting a Pennant meeting at Hilltop, at 5.00pm on Thursday 25th January for all the male members who have shown interest in representing the club in men's pennants this year.  The men's pennant season kicks off on the 11th February at Moruya.

The women's pennants starts in late March so please contact our Women's Captain, Sue Rayner if you are interested in playing women's pennants this year.

Farewell from Nerine...

A Heartfelt Thank You for 18 Wonderful Years at Mollymook Golf Club

Dear Members & Directors,

My time with Mollymook Golf Club will soon come to an end, and as I reflect on the incredible journey of the past 18 years, I am filled with gratitude and a profound sense of appreciation for the camaraderie and professional opportunities that Mollymook Golf Club has provided me.

To the members, it has been an honour and a privilege to be a part of this vibrant club community. Your warmth, camaraderie, and shared passion for the Club have made my time a joyous experience. The memories forged will forever hold a special place in my heart.

To the esteemed Directors, past and present, I extend my deepest gratitude for the guidance, support, and opportunities for professional growth that you have generously provided throughout my tenure.

A special mention to General Manager, John Holt for believing in me, creating the opportunity for me to join the senior management team, and helping shape the leader I have become.

It has been an incredible privilege to be a part of Mollymook Golf Club, and I am deeply grateful for the support and encouragement that have defined my time here.

Wishing the club continued success, growth, and prosperity in the years to come.

Nerine Ockwell
Assistant General Manager

**Nerine's last day will be Monday 29th January

A big thank you to all the staff, on and off the courses at both Hilltop and Beachside who have worked all through the holiday period to manage the large influx of visitors to our club.  Since Christmas, we are averaging over 1,000 meals a day and around 600 rounds of golf on a daily basis so all the staff are certainly "under the pump!".  We currently have 180 staff in total trying to navigate through the peak tourist season.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during this busy time.

Lets hope 2024 brings you lots of birdies (or pars will do), as we look forward to another great year of golf at Mollymook Golf Club.
