  MOLLYMOOK GOLF CLUB - August 24' e-News

Thursday 1 August 2024

Dear Proshop Proshop,

Welcome to the August 24' edition of Mollymook Golf Club e-News.

Another very wet start to last month with over 120mm in the first 4 days causing all sorts of issues.  Unfortunately we had a huge Veterans Women's event on during this time which was reduced to a one day tournament.  The course was closed for 3 days due to heavy rain with another 8 days of "no carts" last month which had a huge impact on golf bookings.  "Touch Wood" as we've had 15 dry days in a row now.  Now the complaints are its too cold or too windy but its better than rain!

Good luck to everyone playing in the club's premier amateur event, the Mollymook Open on the 10th & 11th August.  We've had over 200 entries and the field has now been reduced to 180 players via a handicap ballot.

July Golf Summary

We had 6,101 rounds of golf played in July which was 601 rounds (10.9%) above budget.  Friday 19th July was the busiest day with 369 rounds on one day (175 at Hilltop and 194 at Beachside).

There were 3,409 rounds played at Hilltop and 2,692 rounds played at Beachside.  At Hilltop, 80% of the rounds were from members with 20% from visitors.  At Beachside, 64% of rounds were from members with 36% from visitors.

There were 1,946 competition rounds played at Hilltop with only 18 players scoring 40 points or better.

The best score last month was Bernie Box with +7 in a Par event.  Ian McCarthy and Greg Holmes both shot 66 nett in the Vets Medal while David Munday and David Sims both shot 42 points.  Deborah Huish played great golf with +5 in a Par event and 69 nett in a Stroke event.  Special mention to Scott McCormick's nett 71 in the Medal as it blew around 80 km per hour at some stages during the round.

No Hole-In-Ones last month however there were a few eagles to report...

1st - Karen Bashford
2nd - Campbell Gaunt
8th Keith Philip

Mixed 4BBB Championship

Congratulations to Garry and Sue Hilder on winning their first Mixed 4BBB Championship.  Garry and Sue won by 6 shots from David and Karen Bashford.  Congratulations to Ray and Linda Dorsett who won the Nett event from Richard and Susan Maple-Brown.

Milton Ulladulla Bulldogs Charity Golf Day

The first fundraising golf day for the Milton Ulladulla Bulldogs Rugby League Football Club was held at Hilltop last month and it was a huge event with great raffle and auction prizes.

The day ended up raising $11,965 which will go towards their new amenities project as the club has grown from 3 to 7 Grades in the last 3 years including 4 women's teams.  Unfortunately, their home ground currently only has men's amenities so they hoping to raise enough funds to build a new amenities and club room.

Paul Tooth knows how to arrange a group as they took out first place in the 4 person Ambrose event which included his son Jayde, Andrew Lowry and big hitting PGA Professional, Daniel Heath.

The final round will be shown live on Fox Sports and Kayo.

New Pace of Play System

We have received numerous complaints about the pace of play in recent months due to the wet conditions, cart restrictions and preferred lie, etc, etc.

From today, we have introduced a new pace of play system through MiClub which will list the fastest to slowest players for every competition while also providing the golf staff with live updates of where every group is on course (at Hilltop).  The staff can now see if there are gaps on course and who is falling too far behind so you can expect a message on your MiScore App if you are falling a bit behind.

ROADWORKS                      Hilltop Car Park Entry

There is a road widening project underway for Miles Close which will include a new roundabout at the entry point of the Hilltop car park.

Traffic conditions will change 3 times during the construction process to enter and exit the Hilltop car park.  We will email the tee sheets when we know the 1st stage is about to happen.

Course Maintenance

At Hilltop, the tree root pruning has been continuing on and is work in progress.  About half the course has been done.  All the back edges on bunkers have been cut and reshaped to improve playability.  After the heavy rain, all greens, tees and fairways were sprayed to prevent disease.

An irrigation audit is currently underway in preparation for spring.  The dams are all full as there has been very little use of the irrigation system in the last couple of months.

At Beachside, there has been ongoing tree pruning and sapling removal.  All sumps and creeks have been cleaned out after the heavy rain.  A lot of sticks and branches have been cleared after the recent strong winds.

A new cart path and cart parking area is under construction at Beachside near the golf shop.
