  MOLLYMOOK GOLF CLUB - March 25' e-News

Thursday 6 March 2025

Dear Proshop Proshop,

Welcome to the March 2025 e-newsletter.

Both courses have recently undergone green renovations so the winning scores will be very good for the next few weeks while the greens are a bit slower.  The new spare hole green is coming along nicely (see photo below) and the new tees have been recently turfed.  The bunker sand goes in next week to finally complete the new hole.

A massive thank you to our volunteers who have helped around the Hilltop course over the last couple of days while the course was closed.

Please take the time to read the important information below with respect to changes to your Personal Liability Insurance with Golf Australia.

Also note - we have a massive golf equipment sale starting today (see below)!

February Golf Summary

We had 8,152 rounds of golf played in February which was 348 rounds (4.1%) behind budget and 277 rounds (3.3%) down on February last year.

There were 5,222 rounds played at Hilltop and 2,930 rounds played at Beachside.  At Hilltop, 70% of the rounds were from members with 30% from visitors.  At Beachside, 57% of rounds were from members with 43% from visitors.

There were 2,514 competition rounds played at Hilltop with 31 players scoring 40 points (68 nett) or better.

Some great scores include Greg Harnett with 45 points, Greg Stone with 44 points, David Smyth with 43 points and Greg Moffat with 42 points.  Congratulations to Ryan Clugston who has returned to golf with a 66 nett and well done to Campbell Gaunt on his 67 nett.  Special mention to Marg Little, Kim Johnson and Pam Date who all shot 69 nett.

Eagles

Congratulations to the following golfers on making eagles last month...

6th - Nils Norland

18th - Kurt Lampe

Course Maintenance Update...

Spare Hole - Green and surrounds now being cut lower and light topdressing will continue every week on the green. Tees areas (excluding back tee) have been reshaped and enlarged.  They have been turfed with TifTuf grass.  Additional irrigation has been installed in the new and renovated tees.

Hilltop - Fairways were recently sprayed again with growth regulator (Primo Maxx).  The greens have been renovated with 18mm solid tynes which were set at 18cm deep which is the deepest renovation in several years.

Beachside - Ongoing general maintenance with the installation of the new artificial tee mat area on the 8th Tee.  A new pipe was also installed under the road during the Riversdale Road renovation.  This was done to upgrade the irrigation wiring so it all links together on the north and south side of the road instead of running on separate systems.

The volunteers did a great job while we were closed on the tee gardens and "picking up leaves and sticks".

Golf Australia

Insurance Changes

Golf Australia has made a number of changes to the liability insurance policy that impacts members from the 1st March 2025. Loss or damage caused to electronic handheld items and golf carts will no longer be covered. Additionally, an excess may apply in some property damage instances.

Golf Australia has reviewed the policy arrangements with the primary objective of maintaining protection for members in the event of serious personal injury and ensuring the policy remains affordable and sustainable.

  1. Specific exclusions have been added for any claim, loss, damage, liability or costs and expenses incurred directly or indirectly in connection with third party property damage to:
    • Golf carts
    • Personal handheld electronic devices, including phones, iPads, watches, rangefinders, or anything similar
  2. In terms of claims excess, there are now three categories of insurance claim:
    • Personal injury claims - no excess will be payable
    • Property damage where a golfer is found to have followed all expected duty of care, local rules, and the Rules of Golf - no excess payable
    • Property damage where a golfer is found to have acted in a negligent manner and caused damage to a third-party property - $1,000 excess is payable
The changes raise two important issues for Club Members...

Firstly, there will now be some limited circumstances where a $1,000 excess will be payable by the individual member should a claim be made for property damage where the golfer is found to have acted in a negligent manner. Members will only have to pay the claims if the insurer determines the actions were negligent and there is a likelihood of some liability, and the insurer will incur external costs to defend the member. Members will not have to pay the excess while the insurer is assessing the claim. Before the excess is payable, the insurer will conduct a thorough investigation to determine if the member is likely to incur any legal liability through negligence. The insurer will indemnify the member as is the intent of the policy. If the insurer determines that the member was not negligent in their actions and therefore not liable, then the insurer may choose to defend the claim rather than settle the claim.

Secondly, members will be held accountable for any damage they may cause to the golf carts hired from the Club.

Members need to be aware of these insurance changes from Golf Australia.

Due to these new changes, members and visitors must now complete a "Stray Ball Report" at the completion of play.  These forms are available at the golf shops should your golf ball venture "out of bounds".  We ask ALL MEMBERS to be diligent with this process and ensure reports are lodged immediately after your round.
