  MOLLYMOOK GOLF CLUB - February 26' e-News

Thursday 5 February 2026

Dear Proshop Proshop,

Welcome to the February 2026 e-Newsletter.

We survived the holiday period with a record 12,001 rounds of golf played in January, a record that may never be beaten!

Once again, a big thank you to all the staff who have worked all through the holiday season.  The Beachside clubhouse was also "smashed" during January with record numbers as well.

We have recently welcomed back both the Tuesday Women Golfers and the Wednesday Veterans who are back into the swing with a full calendar of events ahead.

The course renovations are coming along nicely with the 11th & 14th Tees opening for play this week.  The 13th hole reopens in full on Wednesday 4th March and the 14th hole will be taken out of play for renovation.

The new Beachside Toilets between the 6th & 7th holes now have a pin code lock.  The "on course" toilets at Hilltop will also be getting pin code locks installed on the toilets very soon.  The code for all toilets (at both courses) in C2539.  This will be displayed at the golf counters as well.  This will hopefully reduce "issues" we've had at the toilet blocks recently.

January Golf Summary

We had 12,001 rounds of golf played in January which is the most ever played in one month in the history of the club.  This was 1,277 rounds (11.9%) up on last year.

There were 7,520 rounds played at Hilltop and 4,481 rounds played at Beachside.  At Hilltop, 68% of the rounds were from members with 32% from visitors.  At Beachside, 36% of rounds were from members with 64% from visitors.

There were 3,494 competition rounds played at Hilltop with 69 players scoring 40 points (+4, or 68 nett) or better.

Some great scores include Joanne Hensley  with 52 points (yes that is an individual score).  Joanne has managed to drop 21.7 shots in her last 6 rounds. Other impressive results include Michael Goh with 47 points and Greg Lintern with 46 points.   Special mention to Chad Lavington who shot 63 in the Medal event.  While Christian King, Joe Borg and Jon Tucker all scored 44 points.

A big congratulations to Jon Tucker who had a Hole-In-One on the 17th Hole on the 6th January while Rod Tucker is still dreaming of getting his first!

There were plenty of Eagles last month...

4th - Jennifer Rymill
8th - Lachlan Barr and Andrew Lees
10th - Paul Hill
14th - Christian King, Dave Armstrong
18th - Ben Elson

The Men's and Women's Pennant Seasons are about to get underway so good luck to our men's Division 1, 2 and Senior teams that are playing at Moruya this Sunday.  The women's season commences on Monday 16th February.

February Events

There are quite a few special events coming up this month.

Earlier this week, we hosted the Mollymook Women's Opening Day and  Skye O'Sullivan happened to win her first competition back as a golfing member after a spell of over a decade.  Skye did have some help in the Ambrose event with Vickie Osborne who played in her very first 18 hole competition, Michelle Craig who is also fairly new to the competition scene and Tania Anderson who also returned to golf late last year after a 10 year break.  Skye has restarted golf off a GA handicap of +0.2 so good luck to everyone else in the Club Championships later this year.

If you get bored at Hilltop one day, count how many times you see Skye's name appears on the Honour Board.

This Friday, Saturday & Sunday is the annual "Crikey Cup" and good luck to our team of 20 players against the Cumberland team.  Its not all about the golf, it is about remembering our good mate Craig Bury, who was tragically killed "on course" on the 21st January 2021.  We celebrate the event in true "Crikey style" each year!

On Monday, we are hosting the Opening Day Event for Women's Golf Illawarra at Hilltop.  This is the first time hosting this event after our women golfers moved from the South Coast District to the Illawarra District.  There are teams from 14 different clubs attending which will be a great day.

Saturday 14th - Qualifying for the men's "Cock of the Walk" 4BBB Matchplay event.

Sunday 15th - We are hosting Men's Pennants at Hilltop so competition play is only available from 11.30am that day.

Monday 16th - Women's Pennants at Hilltop.

Wednesday 18th - Titleist Fitting Day - Already "booked out"!

Friday 20th - Gubbins Hardware Corporate Day - Invitation only event

Saturday 21st - Qualifying for the men's "John Coleman Memorial Trophy" Individual Matchplay event.

Wednesday 25th - Wilson Fitting Day - Already "booked out"!

Friday 27th - Adam & Alex Memorial Golf Day

We look forward to a busy month of golf.

Also keep in mind International Women's Day competition event on Sunday 8th March.  We will have the kitchen open for lunch after golf.  Tee times are a two tee start (comp only) from 7.00am - 9.00am with an Individual Women's Stableford and an Open Single Stableford available.

Jye wins NSW Medal

Congratulations to  our own Jye Halls on winning the NSW Medal at the NSW Amateur Championship.

Jye secured the NSW Medal Championship after finishing at ten-under par across the two-round stroke play component, played at Oatlands and Strathfield Golf Clubs. A four-under-par 67 at Strathfield on Tuesday proved decisive, giving Jye a one-shot victory over The Australian’s Darcy Mackay and South Australian Kade Bryant, who finished tied for second.

Jye then entered the match play section as the Number 1 seed for the NSW Amateur Championship.  Jye shot a great round of 66 in the Round of 32 match play to win his first match just 1 Up.  He then shot 66 again in the Round of 16 and ended up losing to a birdie on the  21st hole (3rd extra hole).

Well done Jye on some great golf!

Kelsey finishes Runner Up

Congratulations to our own Kelsey Bennett on finishing Runner Up in the Victorian Open at 13th Beach a couple of weeks ago.

In tough, windy conditions, Kelsey held the lead briefly during the last round however Lydia Hall from Wales played super golf down the stretch to win by 4 shots from Kelsey and Kathryn Norris.

Kelsey has some big events coming up in Australia but is heading off to play the Saudi Ladies International at Riyadh Golf Club next week.  This event in Saudi Arabia is one of the largest prize money events this year with $5,000,000 USD prize money.

The Ladies European Tour (LET) will have a record prize purse on offer for the 2026 season with a total of more than €40 million available across the 30 events on the schedule.

A win in Saudi will be life changing!  Good luck.

Membership Rules...

Now that golf has returned to "normal", a reminder of the following...

  • You cannot bring your own alcohol onto the golf course(s).  This is a breach of the club's Alcohol Policy and our Liquor Licence.  Please take this as a final warning as this will not be tolerated and will result in your membership being suspended.  See our Alcohol Policy below...
  • Competition Tee Times are for competition golf only, not for social play.  You cannot play social golf rounds during comp times and especially on a Thursday or Saturday.  The only exception to this is new members going for a "handicap card".
  • Golf Carts - Please note you cannot drive your golf cart within 10 metres of a green or tee unless it is on a designated cart path.  If you are seen parking your cart near the fringe of the green, edge of a tee or inside roped off areas you will receive a written warning.  If a further breach occurs, you will be banned from using carts for a period of time (members with approved medical conditions are exempt).

13th Green Renovation

The fairway irrigation is now complete, new fairway drainage and cart path are currently being installed.  The new 14th Tees are now open and the 11th Tee opens this weekend.  The 13th Red Tee is now complete with landscaping being finished off next week.  Only one month to go until we are playing the new 13th hole!

Work has been progressing nicely and the construction team have done a great job since returned back on the 5th January.

Below is the new 11th White Tee, new cart path going in and the 14th Tees opened for play this morning.

Course Maintenance - General

Whilst a lot of work has been happening on the 13th, we are well aware that there are 18 other holes (incl. 6A & 6B) to attend too.  Now that golf is getting back into a normal routine, we aim to start picking off the "1%" jobs.

Recently completed works (amongst the 12,000 golfers) include...

Hilltop Course Maintenance

Aerated (solid tyne) greens to reduce compaction from peak holiday traffic
Dusted greens
16th Hole – New "spoon drain" installed left side of fairway from residential
3rd Hole – bunker filled in and being turfed
All hazards have been sprayed for weeds
Fairways sprayed with Primo (growth regulator)
Fairways sprayed with Iron (improve colour and density)
7th Hole - Repair area in front of green with new turf

Beachside

Kikuyu sprayed in Zoysia areas
General weed spraying of tree bases and hazards
Pruned lower branches
Repaired bird damage on greens (ongoing)

A reminder that we have a dedicated link on our website for members where you can view our Summer Works List and also send us any course maintenance issues that you think are a high priority.  Please click on the link below where you can also add a photo if required.

Good golfing this month and hopefully our men's Division 1 Pennant Team win the "most improved" award this year.

Regards,

Barry West CCM, PGA
