  MOLLYMOOK GOLF CLUB - September 25' e-News

Tuesday 2 September 2025

Dear Proshop Proshop,

Welcome to the September 2025 e-Newsletter.

Spring is here and we are due for plenty of sunshine!

Last month was like ground hog day with wet weather and another terrible start to the month.  We had over 100mm of rain in the first 3 days.  We had 17 days last month with some sort of rain totalling 207.8mm.  That is now just over half a metre of rain in the last two months!

The course was closed for 6 days last month and due to the wet conditions, we had to cancel the 2025 Mollymook Open.  The men's Club Championships were postponed (again) to late October.  The Vets "Life Members" Day was cancelled and the women's annual Scramble Charity Day was postponed to the 16th September.

Some good news, we have a lot of big events coming up and the the course is looking great after the strong winds last week.

  • Tuesday 16th, We have one single spot left in the Women's Scramble Charity Day
  • Friday 26th, Milton Ulladulla Rugby League Football Club Fundraising Day, we have one spare group and one single spot available

  • Saturday 18th October - PGA Legends NSW Senior Masters - Round 2 (PROS ONLY)
  • Friday 24th October - Family of League Charity Day (Tee Sheet NOW OPEN)

For the Pro-Am events, we are waiting for the professional side of the field to be finalised and then we will open the tee sheets for members to book in to play with the professionals.  Please note these events will have very limited spots available due to sponsors and professionals in the field.  These tee sheets will open one month prior to the events.

In addition to these special events, we have the Vets Club Championships starting on the 24th September, the Women's Golf Medal Playoff on the 30th September, the Women's Foursomes Championship starting on the 7th October and the Men's Club Championships starting on the 25th October.

It is an exciting time for the club with the Hilltop Course Renovation Plan about to get underway in just 7 weeks from now.  The 13th Hole will be taken out of play from the 20th October for four months.  During this time, the 14th Tees and the Blue, White and Yellow Tees on the 11th will be rebuilt and enlarged.  The 13th will have a new green, bunkering and surrounds along with new irrigation and drainage.

August Golf Summary

We had 5,186 rounds of golf played in August which was 1,644 rounds (24%) down on last year.

There were 2,905 rounds played at Hilltop and 2,281 rounds played at Beachside.  At Hilltop, 78% of the rounds were from members with 22% from visitors.  At Beachside, 62% of rounds were from members with 38% from visitors.

There were 1,440 competition rounds played at Hilltop with just 20 players scoring 40 points (+4, or 68 nett) or better.  It has been tough going in the wet!

Some great scores include Tania Anderson  with a 61 nett (yes for 18 holes).   Tania has gone from a GA of 24 down to 12.7 in just 4 competitions.  One of our new Young Adult members, Jayden Milllard had 43 points and so did Bronwyn McDonald.  Bodhi Charlton shot 42 points while Peter Coburn shot a +5 in a Par event and Tony Whittle had a 67 nett.

Hole-In-One: None last month, the holes must have shrunk with all the rain!

There were three Eagles last month.  Congratulations to Jason Apps - 7th Hole, Gavin Lee - 8th hole and Mark Pullinger - 18th (again).

Congratulations to Stuart Cook from Club Bega who won the Mollymook Senior Open with a great score of 72.  Stuart won by two shots from James Ponder from Cromer GC.  In the Nett event, some local knowledge helped Tony Whittle to a great score of 67 nett who was beaten on a countback.  Well done Tony on flying the Mollymook flag at our Senior Open.

Course Maintenance

It is that time of year again, green renovations!

The Beachside greens were renovated yesterday and the Hilltop course greens will be renovated next Monday and Tuesday (8th & 9th September).

There is a lot of new drainage work being done as the course is drying out and the team are working their way around trying to improve the worst areas.  This work will be ongoing.

        Other works recently completed include...

        Tree Root Removal (Tees) – 7th, 8th, 16th & 18th.
16th – Repaired stairs to toilet.
4th Tee – Repaired edge of garden along cart path.
Trimmed all sprinkler heads around greens and tees.
Adjusted sprinkler height of some heads.
New Out of Bounds perimeter stakes/markers installed.
12th – Fixed log barriers (left side).
Edged paths around tees and greens
Repaired pot holes near 9th tee cart path.
Plugged damaged turf areas on some greens eg: front left 3rd green.
Sprayed tees with fertiliser and herbicide.
With the recent extreme wet weather, constantly unblocking drains and draining bunkers.

Good golfing this month and hopefully more sunshine.

Regards,

Barry West CCM, PGA
